What: Website Building
How Long: About 6 hours all together, so far.
Basically I've designed three basic things, including basic logos, that the Quill can use as a website layout. I basically played with Paint SHop Pro 8 for three of those six hours. The fourth hour I made the following action plan:
Action Plan:
I need to:
Make graphic design layout for site
Get tabs in order and consistent
Make the following table:
General: - ID, Level, Student, Student ID, Student Grade, Student's Email, Date Submitted, Title of Piece, Piece, [Extra fields, shown only for book reviews:] Book Title, Book Author, Book Publisher, Year Published, Place Published.
ID will be the ID auto assigned by interval for the specific entry.
Level will be the one changed according to type of entry and whether or not its shown. Level will be called level, but it will be type.
1 - will be a hidden entry, automatic, makes it a general entry and must be manually inputted onto the website to get it to show.
poetry - will be autochanged when the entry is updated by administrator
bookreview - ""
shortstory - ""
Coding for submissions:
Four different submission forms, three of which on the submissions page
One will be under "contact" and only require an email and comments, which will be sent via PHP to kjaccari@bcs1.org
Administration will have one pull up page, where she enters the ID sent to her, and it brings up the information with an extra number box. On the actual page, I will list off what each level means so she can manually change it to the appropriate number. 1 will be "general", which will have to be posted manually; it will be the content of the main page and the history page.
To display each page not in general:
Hook up to database, list only those = level, then ID, and after "splash" info, make a table which displays a loop to link all entries via:
Poetry:
Author - [Title] - Date Submitted; []=linked
Short Stories:
Author - [Title] - Date Submitted; []=linked
Book Reviews:
Writer - [Book] - Reviewer - Date Submitted; []=linked
The link will be a url up to id?=" .id.
I also need to, as I go, make a guide for Mrs. Jaccarino so that she can maintain the site.
-If her email changes
-All log in information - ftp, database, site manager; webmaster email, my email
-The two color original image started with; instructions to double size and blur
-All color information if a new logo needs to be designed
-How to change the tool bars
-How to edit information
-How to delete information
-How to manually add information
The fifth and six hours;
I began to write the code to add and delete entries into the database. I'm not sure how much you know about website coding, but I am currently using PHP and MySQL in order to make an "easy" site for the librarian. My intention is to make it "idiot proof", so that the librarian will never actually have to extend out of her comfort zone in order to make changes to it.
The current layouts that I've designed so far:
